Take a Tour of American Idol

With all the hoopla about American Idol, what comes to mind is a party that is based on the judging of talent. Though it's unlikely that too many children watch the show—the younger ones at least—this is a theme for perhaps pre-teen to adult. It can be a fun idea to get some friends together and pretend they are performing on American Idol and let the others at the party judge their talent. Remember, it isn't real, so you don't want to go crazy except the person who is appointed to be Simon.

Since you're only sponsoring a party time event, you don't have to have an entire band, but rather like a Karaoke night. You want to set up an area for the judges to sit, perhaps a makeshift judging stand using a picnic table or any other kind of table that is available. All of your guests at the party can cast their votes and choose the one person who will go on to bigger and better things. Not being a fan of television, I don't know all of the prizes that are awarded for winning, but since you are only doing a mock performance, you can decide what kind of prizes you want to offer.

For those who are real fans of American Idol, having an opportunity to perform or vote, even if it's only mock, can be exciting. It may be really fun if you can do it in the summer in your backyard and invite your neighbors to come participate.
