There are a few things that American Idol is really known for. The first thing is the crazy, and oftentimes hilarious, contestants that show up to audition. The next thing, which relates to the first, is the incredibly offense way that Simon Cowell expresses his opinion to the people who are putting their hearts out there. The third thing is Ryan Seacrest, which is a can of worms that doesn't need to be opened. And besides for the contestants, who make up the whole point of the show, there are the songs, the American Idol songs.
Of course it sounds silly to point out that the songs are major part of the show, but with all the hype and manufactured drama it's easy to forget that singing is really what it's all about. The songs on American Idol are what the fans are really tuning in for. Each season brings in a new batch of singers with new tastes. With the structure being the way it is, and contestants having to sing based on a theme each week after they get to Hollywood, the audience gets a good cross section of songs.
Some of the more memorable songs this season have been everything from country, to classic, to pop. Having the auditions all over the country allows more people from more places to try out. The diverse backgrounds help give the contestant pool a diverse set of styles. You might see a song sung on American Idol in a way that you never thought you would. You might see a gospel song done with a pop style, or you might see a country song done more like a rock song.
The American Idol songs are what everyone is really watching. Don't miss this season and don't miss all the great music!
